A few blocks away, you will visit Santo Domingo Convent, one of the most impressive religious architectural complexes of the 17th century. It contains the relics of the three Peruvian saints, Santa Rosa de Lima, San Martin de Porres and San Juan Macías, and a library with a collection of 25 thousand old books. We will then head for Q’enqo, the ancient temple of the Puma, where we will be able to appreciate the sacrifices altar in the inner part of an enormous carved rock. From there, we will continue to Tambomachay; the sacred fountains of life and health. On the way back to Cusco, we will have a panoramic view from Puca Pucara; a watchtower that controlled the entrance to the city.

In Cusco, we will visit Korikancha, the Temple of the Sun, on top of which the Saint Dominique Convent was built. The history tells that this temple was entirely lined in gold sheets when the Spanish conquistadors arrived. At the end of our tour, we will go to the Main Square and will visit the Cusco Cathedral where invaluable colonial paintings and other works of art, such as the Cross that arrived with the first conquistadors, can be admired.

Important Note: People are not allowed to enter religious sites wearing shorts. Taking photos is not allowed inside the Cathedral.

    Day 4 | A Day to Discover Machu Picchu | B.L.

After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to the train station to board the train to Aguas Calientes. During the journey, we will appreciate several landmarks in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, including the hanging bridge that signals the start of the Inca Trail. After getting off the train, we will board the mini-bus that will take us up the winding road to Machu Picchu, the Sacred Citadel of the Incas and considered one of the New Wonders of the World. The Lost City of the Incas will astonish us with its terraces, ceremonial shrines, steps and urban areas. Energy will be all around us. Day 5 | From Cusco to Puno / Welcome to Lake Titicaca | B.L.

Full-Day Andean Cross to Puno/Lake Titicaca by Tour Bus with several stops en-route to visit Andahuaylillas Chapel, Wiracocha Temple, and Pucara Museum w/Lunch.

Andahuaylillas Chapel: Referred to as the Andean Sistine Chapel because of its magnificent frescoes, the church is but one example of the mestizo baroque architecture typical of the Cusco School which was prominent in the 17th century. You will marvel at the ceiling of carved panels covered with gold leaf.

Raqchi (God Wiracocha Temple): Located 121 kilometers from Cusco, this Inca temple is monumental: 100 meters in length, 26 meters in width and 14 meters in height. Divided in two naves, each of these still retain the base of eleven giant columns. The base of the walls consists of Imperial Inca stonework with a top section of adobe. Adjacent to the temple, we can see many storehouses, used for various purposes: military and religious.

La Raya: The highest pass on the route between Cusco and Puno, La Raya is 4,335 meters above sea level. Beautiful landscapes await you, as well as the animals that are symbolic of the Andes: llamas, alpacas and vicunas. This is a region situated between two cultures, Quechua and Aymara, as well as a composite of two terrains: the dry and arid altiplano and the more verdant Quechua valleys and rivers.

Pukara: This is the most important and oldest ceremonial site this side of Tiahuanaco. Characterized by a series of stared platforms, the ruins also reveal some litosculptures and tombstones, all witnesses of a pre-Inca civilization, possibly one at the origin of the Andean culture of the Altiplano.

This excursion will provide you a real Andean experience because of its high Andean views, stopping when necessary or when requested in order to take pictures and to enjoy lunch.

Upon arrival to Puno, transfer to the hotel of your choice for a two-night stay with breakfast included.

The first stop will be to visit the Floating Island of the Uros where you will learn about this pre-Inca community that took refuge on the waters of this lake, running away from the Incas and also from the Spaniards.

The journey will continue across the lake to visit the Island of Taquile, a place in which the settlers still maintain their ancestral traditions and colorful typical clothes. This will be a great opportunity to explore the island and get the best view of the lake. A typical lunch will be served before boarding the boat that will take you back to Puno.
