    Day 3 | Let the Adventure Begin! Piscacucho / Ollantaytambo / Wayllabamba (12.5 kms. – 5-6 hours) | B.L.D.

Wake up early in the morning and charge your batteries with breakfast in the hotel. You will be picked up from the hotel and taken to Piscacucho (Km 82), the starting point of the hike along the Inca Trail. Before arriving, you will make a short stop in the town of Ollantaytambo (2,792 M.A.S.L. / 9,160 ft.), where you will have 15 to 20 minutes to enjoy some last-minute shopping before setting out on your adventure. Then begin your walk in Piscacucho (2,700 M.A.S.L. / 8,858 ft.) and admire the beautiful backdrop of the snowy Veronica mountain as you slowly but surely make your way between small communities and gorgeous views of the valley. Along the route, you will be able to see far off into the distance, where a number of archaeological sites, such as Willkarakay and Patallaqta, sit on the hillsides. After about five or six hours, you will eventually come upon Wayllabamba (3,000 M.A.S.L. / 9,842 ft.), the last town you will find on the road. Lunch is served en route, whereas dinner is held at the camp upon arrival. After eating, it is time to lie down and replenish your energy.

    Day 4Warmi Wañusca / Pacaymayo (12 kms. – 6 to 7 hours) | B.L.D.

Wake up to a hearty breakfast, for today you are going to walk the hardest leg of the journey: ascending to the highest point of the route, a staggering 4,200 meters above sea level or 13,780 feet. It is known as Warmi Wañusca pass, ‘dead woman’ in Quechua, because the silhouette of the mountains resembles the figure of a reclining woman. You will notice the landscape start to transform as the road slowly penetrates the cloud forest, with large trees and small waterfalls forming on each side of the route. Even if it gets harder with every step, do not stop; the view from the top of the trek will leave you breathless. It is like being on top of the world! After snapping the photos de rigueur, it is time to start the much more easy-going descent to the camp in Pacaymayo (3,600 M.A.S.L. / 11,811 ft.), where you will be served lunch and dinner. There will be seven exhausting hours of road, full of ups and downs, and a well-deserved rest is necessary.

    Day 5 | Runkurakay / Chaquicocha / Wiñayhuayna (16 kms. – 8 to 9 hours) | B.L.D.

If yesterday was the hardest day in terms of height, today will be the hardest in terms of length. However, it is also possibly the most interesting day of the trek given the number of archaeological sites you will find along the way, not to mention the beauty of the road itself. After breakfast in Pacaymayo, start a fresh ascent up to the Runkurakay pass. On the way down, visit the archaeological sites of Sayaqmarka and Qonchamarka. Admire the construction techniques used to build the walls and the beautiful landscapes offered by the Andes surrounding this section. Then have lunch in Chaquicocha, where you will have time to rest and catch your breath before starting the last ascent of the day, this time to the pass of Phuyupatamarca (3,700 M.A.S.L. / 12,139 ft.), which also boasts an interesting archaeological site. Part of the road passes through some magnificently designed tunnels, a testament to the mastery of the ancient Inca architects. Start the descent through the cloud forest along a curious path with spiral staircases between the trees, until you eventually reach the last camp site in Wiñaywayna (2,650 M.A.S.L. / 8,694 ft.). There you will be served dinner and spend the last night.

    Da6 | Wiñayhuayna / Machu Picchu / Cusco | B.L.

Today promises to be the most exciting day of the trail, as at long last, all your efforts are paid off when you reach the goal of your journey: the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu (2,430 M.A.S.L. / 7,970 ft.),. Wake up very early in the morning and start the trek to the Intipunku (2,720 M.A.S.L. / 8,923 ft.), or ‘door of the sun’ in Quechua. When the first rays of morning sun creep over the horizon, be dazzled by the breath-taking view of the entire Historical Sanctuary, a moment that will be marked in your memory for a long time to come. After snapping some wonderful photographs to document the moment, begin the descent to the citadel, where a two-hour guided tour of this Inca wonder awaits. At the end of the tour, you will have free time to walk and explore the site at your leisure. Then board the bus back to Aguas Calientes (2,040 M.A.S.L. / 6,921 ft.) for lunch, and then take the train back to Cusco in the evening. Check-in at the Costa Del Sol Ramada for an overnight stay with breakfast included.

    Day 7 | Cusco / Lima / Home | B.

Today, at the appropriate time, you will be provided with a private transfer to the Cusco airport for your onward flights (airfare is not included).
