Day by Day Itinerary: Isabela II Galapagos Deluxe Cruise Central Islands
DAY 1 | MONDAY | Welcome to Baltra | D.
Following the morning arrival at Baltra Airport, we will take a small ferry across the Itabaca Channel to the north of Santa Cruz Island, where we will board the bus that will take us to Puerto Ayora.
Puerto Ayora and the Charles Darwin Research Station (Santa Cruz Island): After driving down from the highlands, we visit the Charles Darwin Research Station and the giant tortoise pens within an impressive giant prickly-pear cactus forest home to many land birds. These are the headquarters of scientific investigation, conservation and the National Park administration. Late afternoon stroll along the main street of Puerto Ayora before embarking the Motor Yacht Isabela II for a 4-night cruise in a Classic Cabin exploring the Central Islands: Santa Fe, South Plaza, and North Seymour Islands, Las Bachas in Santa Cruz Island, Bartolome Island, and Sullivan Bay in Santiago Island.
Note: On the arrival day, please dress comfortably and bring with you a small back pack with essentials for the rest of the day (medications, sunblock, insect repellent, etc.) since we will board the M/Y Isabela II at the end of the afternoon.
DAY 2 | TUESDAY | B.L.D.
Santa Fe Island: A stunning anchorage provides our jumping-off point for our visit to this sandy white beach with many sea lion harems. Galapagos hawks are often easily observed, perched atop salt bushes. The endemic land iguana, unique to this island, may be spotted during the walk. Snorkeling and swimming from the beach, kayaking or a ride in our glass-bottom boat rounds off the rewarding experience.
South Plaza Island: The turquoise waters of the channel here contrast brilliantly with the white sand and black lava of the shoreline, while a carpet of scarlet sesuvium succulents serves as groundcover for a grove of luminescent green prickly-pear cactus beyond, populated by yellow-gray land iguanas. Along the coastline one finds sea lion colonies, while sea birds play with the thermals that form along the cliffs of this small but amazing island.
DAY 3 | WEDNESDAY | B.L.D.
North Seymour Island: The morning starts with an enjoyable walk along the coast and the interior of this island, a favorite of many visitors, observing numerous bird colonies as well as sea lions and marine iguanas. There are opportunities for snorkeling or coastal exploration. We can also ride in the glass-bottom boat for great views of the underwater world.
Las Bachas (Santa Cruz Island): After WWII, US military barges were beached and abandoned here. Locals referred to the beach as the barges beach, a name that morphed to bachas. Today it is an important nesting area for the east Pacific green sea turtle. Located on the north shore of Santa Cruz Island, it is a glorious white beach, with several brackish lagoons only a few steps away from the sea. These lagoons are the feeding grounds of various wading birds, from stilts to flamingos. Swimming and/or snorkeling from the beach. Thursday’s expedition plan and dinner.
DAY 4 | THURSDAY | B.L.D.
Bartolome Island: This morning, a Galapagos icon awaits: Bartolome Island. A great way to start the day, with a steep climb up a wooden staircase: the view from the top is worth the effort! Following the walk, we take to the dinghies for a ride around colossal Pinnacle Rock, followed by time to enjoy the beach and some snorkeling. We can also ride in the glass-bottom boat for great views of the underwater world.
Sullivan Bay (Santiago Island): After lunch, we board the pangas to land at Sullivan Bay on the east coast of Santiago, a white coral sand beach great for swimming or snorkeling, and with a trail over a lava field that flowed here less than 100 years ago. This is the perfect place to see and feel the volcanic origin of Galapagos while observing its wildlife.
DAY 5 | FRIDAY | Baltra / Home / Next Destination | B.
Baltra Island: After breakfast, we disembark at Baltra Island. Upon arrival in Baltra, transfer to the airport.

We begin our travels north of Quito, towards the town of Otavalo; a series of stops will be made along the way. We begin with Mira Lago, a rest stop that offers unparalleled views of the San Pablo Lake and the imposing Imbabura Volcano. Our journey continues to the Otavalo Market and the Plaza de los Ponchos. The history of the Otavalo Market dates back to the 16th century, when the indigenous merchants played a crucial role as traders and travelling salesmen; today it is one of the biggest and best known in Ecuador offerings of textiles, jewelry, musical instruments, crafts and more. Our next stop is at the Miguel Andrango’s workshop for a closer look into the process of producing intricate and beautiful textiles. A visit to the vegetable market is also part of today’s activity program; here you can get up close and personal with the hundreds of ingredients and products that form the basis for some of its most traditional Ecuadorian dishes. Take a shot at bartering with the vendors to get the best price on some of Ecuador’s top fruits and favorite vegetables. Be sure to sample some exotic fruits, such as passion fruit, the capulí (Andean cherry), or tree tomato.
