An 8-Day Exploration of Quito, the Middle of the World, Otavalo, the Northern Andes, and the Amazon Rainforest
During your personal discovery of this amazing region of the world, you will experience the best of mainland Ecuador, from the majestic city of Quito, home to a UNESCO-listed colonial historic center, to the beautiful and fertile Otavalo Valley in the Northern Highlands.
Continue to the Antisana Nature Reserve in the Northern Andes, a protected area of more than 120,000 hectares, ideal for wildlife viewing and home to the magnificent Andean Condor.
Your journey continues to the Amazon Rainforest along the Napo River, where you will discover the heart of one of the world’s richest ecosystems, home to seven species of monkeys, 50 species of bats, anteaters, three-toed sloths, ocelots, and birds of more colors than you could ever imagine.
This unforgettable journey will show you Ecuador like never before!
In Quito, Ecuador
Meet and greet service at Quito Airport by your local host, who will transfer you to the Swissotel (or best available option), where you will check in for your four-night stay. Breakfast and taxes are included. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.
After breakfast, enjoy your Quito City Tour & Middle of the World Monument experience with your private guide. Explore Quito’s UNESCO-listed Historic Center, including its colonial architecture, historic churches, and cultural landmarks.
Continue to the Middle of the World Monument, where you will discover the equatorial line and unique regional phenomena. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before spending the rest of the afternoon at leisure.
After breakfast at the hotel, meet your guide in the lobby and begin your Otavalo Market Excursion with Lunch. Travel north of Quito to the village of Calderón, known for its colorful traditional masapán figures, and continue through the scenic landscapes of the Northern Highlands.
Visit the famous Otavalo Textile Market at Plaza de Ponchos, one of South America’s largest open-air markets, where you can browse handmade crafts, textiles, and traditional artwork. Enjoy lunch at a historic hacienda, followed by a visit to the artisan village of Cotacachi before returning to Quito in the late afternoon.
After breakfast at the hotel, meet your local host and begin your Antisana Ecological Reserve Expedition, a private journey through Ecuador’s spectacular Andean landscapes. Visit Antisanilla to admire ancient lava flows and a dramatic canyon where Andean Condors are frequently seen.
Continue into the high-altitude paramo, located at approximately 12,000 feet, to explore its unique ecosystem, glacial landscapes, native vegetation, and diverse birdlife, including the endangered Black-faced Ibis and Andean Teal.
After lunch, return to Quito while enjoying breathtaking views of the Andes.
Breakfast at the hotel. At the designated time, transfer to Quito Airport for a 30-minute flight to the River Port of Coca (airfare included). Upon arrival, meet your host from Sacha Lodge and enjoy a quick lunch before heading to the pier to board one of the lodge’s motorized canoes for a two-hour journey down the river to Sacha Lodge’s property.
A 30-minute hike through the rainforest leads you to Lake Pilchicocha, where you will be met by local staff who will paddle you across the lake to your destination, Sacha Lodge.
Upon arrival, begin your Sacha Lodge 3-Night Program – Day 1 experience by meeting your naturalist guide, who will accompany you throughout your stay. After lunch, enjoy your first Amazon rainforest activities, followed by dinner and a nighttime excursion to discover the region’s nocturnal wildlife.

A typical day during your Sacha Lodge 3 Night Program Day 2 begins at sunrise or earlier, when the rainforest is most active and wildlife sightings are at their best.
Your naturalist guide will provide a friendly wake up call, followed by breakfast about 30 minutes later. Excursions are enjoyed at a relaxed pace, allowing you to discover the Amazon’s incredible biodiversity and learn from expert guides along the way.
During your Sacha Lodge 3 Night Program Day 3, you might begin the day paddling dugout canoes through tannin rich black water creeks and lakes, where lush rainforest vegetation creates excellent opportunities to spot wildlife, from tiny pygmy marmosets to elusive ocelots and pumas. Later, enjoy a motorized canoe ride along the Napo River to visit the Providencia Community of Yasuní, where you’ll learn about local traditions, cooking techniques, and observe colorful parrots gathering at a natural clay lick.
Return to the lodge for lunch, followed by time to relax on the Balsa or cool off in the Lake Pool. In the afternoon, explore the Terra Firme forest with your guide before ascending the Canopy Walk, a spectacular suspension bridge offering unforgettable views of the rainforest canopy and its abundant wildlife.
Breakfast and departure from the lodge in the early morning. Enjoy one last walk along the boardwalk to the river, followed by a 2 hour canoe ride back to Coca for your 35 minute flight to Quito (airfare included). Arrive in Quito around noon time, subject to change, to connect with your onward international flight.
Important Notes: The itinerary is subject to change due to weather conditions, specific interests, and the physical abilities of our guests. If your onward international flight departs later in the evening, you may want to consider booking a day room at the Wyndham Quito Airport Hotel. An additional charge will apply.
