Day by Day Itinerary: Isabela II Galapagos Deluxe Cruise South Islands

    DAY 1 | FRIDAY | Welcome to Baltra | L.D.

You will arrive at Baltra Airport and transfer to the Itabaca Channel to take a ferry across to Santa Cruz Island. A 30-minute bus ride takes us to a restaurant in the Highlands of Santa Cruz Island to enjoy lunch, and then continue to Puerto Ayora.

Charles Darwin Research Station (Santa Cruz Island): After driving down from the highlands, we visit the Charles Darwin Research Station and the giant tortoise pens within an impressive giant prickly-pear cactus forest home to many land birds. These are the headquarters of scientific investigation, conservation and the National Park administration. Late afternoon stroll along the main street of Puerto Ayora before embarking the Motor Yacht Isabela II for a 4-night cruise in a Classic Cabin exploring the Southern Islands: Post Office Bay, Punta Cormorant, and Champion Islet in Floreana Island, Punta Suarez and Gardner Bay in Espanola Island, Punta Pitt, Cerro Brujo, and Puerto Baquerizo Moreno in San Cristobal Island.

Note: Please dress with comfortable shoes and clothes, bring a small backpack with any medicine you might be taken, sunblock, insect repellent and anything you need during the excursion as you will go onboard Yacht Isabela II and the end of the day.

    Day 2 | SATURDAY | B.L.D.

Post Office Bay (Floreana Island): After breakfast, we land at Post Office Bay to visit the historic barrel that has been serving as a post office in the archipelago for over two centuries. Snorkel off the beach.
Activities: Nature Walk, Snorkeling & Panga (Zodiac) Rides.

Cormorant Point (Floreana Island): Our visit to Punta Cormorant takes in an olivine-crystal beach for an easy walk by a brackish water lagoon where bird species like greater flamingos may be observed. On the other side of the island, we come to a white-sand beach where sea turtles come out at night to nest. We can usually snorkel at Champion Islet, enjoy a panga ride or ride in our glass-bottom boat.
Activities: Nature Walk, Snorkeling & Panga (Zodiac), or Glass-Bottom Boat Rides.

    Day 3 | SUNDAY | B.L.D.

Punta Suarez (Espanola Island): Our morning outing at Punta Suarez provides an exciting walk on lava/boulder terrain to visit its unique sea bird colonies, including the waved albatrosses (April – December), boobies, swallow-tail gulls, and the famous “blowhole”. Also, look for red-green-black marine iguanas. Back on board for lunch.
    Activities: Nature Walk.

Gardner Bay (Espanola Island): In the afternoon, we set down at this beautiful, white coral beach for a short walk to observe the sea lions, mockingbirds, finches or enjoy the beach. There is great snorkeling in this area, or else there’s time to kayak, panga ride or ride the glass-bottom boat.
Activities: Nature Walk, Snorkeling, Kayaking, & Panga (Zodiac) or Glass-Bottom Boat Rides.

    Day 4 | MONDAY | B.L.D.

Punta Pitt (San Cristobal Island): In the morning, we land on the eastern tip of the island. The trail that ascends from the beach provides spectacular views of the shoreline and is the only site in the Galapagos where the three species of boobies can be found together, as well as the two frigate species, plus a colony of bachelor sea lions. After the walk, if conditions are favorable, there is a chance to swim, kayak or snorkel from the beach or a panga ride.
Activities: Nature Walk, Snorkeling, Kayaking, & Panga (Zodiac) or Glass-Bottom Boat Rides.

Cerro Brujo (San Cristobal Island): In the afternoon following lunch on board, a dinghy ride along the shores of tuff-stone layers takes us to Cerro Brujo’s expansive, white coralline beach, great for walking, with rewarding  bird watching with good views of  seabirds and shore birds. Also, look out for Galapagos sea lions. These are the same shores that Charles Darwin walked upon, back in September 1835.  After the walk, there is a chance to swim and snorkel.
Activities: Nature Walk, Snorkeling, Kayaking, & Panga (Zodiac) Rides.

    Day 5 | TUESDAY | San Cristobal / Home / Next Destination | B.

Puerto Baquerizo Moreno (San Cristobal Island): After breakfast, disembark in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno and transfer to the airport.

We begin our travels north of Quito, towards the town of Otavalo; a series of stops will be made along the way. We begin with Mira Lago, a rest stop that offers unparalleled views of the San Pablo Lake and the imposing Imbabura Volcano. Our journey continues to the Otavalo Market and the Plaza de los Ponchos. The history of the Otavalo Market dates back to the 16th century, when the indigenous merchants played a crucial role as traders and travelling salesmen; today it is one of the biggest and best known in Ecuador offerings of textiles, jewelry, musical instruments, crafts and more. Our next stop is at the Miguel Andrango’s workshop for a closer look into the process of producing intricate and beautiful textiles. A visit to the vegetable market is also part of today’s activity program; here you can get up close and personal with the hundreds of ingredients and products that form the basis for some of its most traditional Ecuadorian dishes. Take a shot at bartering with the vendors to get the best price on some of Ecuador’s top fruits and favorite vegetables. Be sure to sample some exotic fruits, such as passion fruit, the capulí (Andean cherry), or tree tomato. Afterwards, a brief visit is planned for the Casa de Musica Andina; a cultural education project which promotes activities for children and young people from rural communities.

After of all of these experiential journeys, you will enjoy a delicious lunch at Hacienda Pinsaqui, a 300 year old Estate where the Chefs prepare fresh meals with organic, fresh local and seasonal ingredients aim to please the most demanding tastes through varied menus.
