Cusco, Peru: Full-Day Cusco City Tour. This morning, your tour begins at the Sacsayhuaman Fortress, one of the most iconic Inca constructions, located just minutes from the city. Built by Inca Pachacutec in the 15th century, this massive fortress is made of remarkably large stones, whose transportation and precise carving remain a mystery. Sacsayhuaman is also the site of the Inti Raymi Festival, a reenactment held every June 24 during the winter solstice to honor the Sun.
Next, you’ll visit Qenqo, a religious archaeological site located four kilometers from Cusco, believed to have been used for agricultural rituals. Your journey continues to Puka Pukara, or “Red Fortress,” situated seven kilometers from the city. This military complex features various rooms, plazas, baths, aqueducts, and towers, and it is thought that the Inca’s entourage stayed here while he rested at nearby Tambomachay.
You will then explore Tambomachay, an archaeological site known for its finely crafted stonework and sophisticated hydraulic engineering. Fed by underground springs and nearby hot springs, its aqueducts still supply clear water to this day. Also called the Inca Bath, Tambomachay served as a place of leisure and ritual for the Inca and his entourage, with water being a central element of worship.
In the afternoon, your guide will take you on a walking tour starting at Koricancha, one of the most important temples of the Inca Empire. You’ll then visit the Cusco Cathedral, renowned for its striking colonial art and architecture. To finish the day, immerse yourself in the lively San Pedro Market, where you can explore local products, traditional foods, and handmade crafts. After the tour, you will return to your hotel.
