Puno, Peru: Lake Titicaca Exploration by Boat with Lunch. After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to the pier to board a boat for a full-day exploration of the magnificent Lake Titicaca, accompanied by your private guide.
Your journey begins with a visit to the Uros, the warm and welcoming inhabitants of the unique floating islands made entirely of totora reeds. With over 40 islands constructed from these buoyant reeds, the Uros Islands are one of the most photographed attractions on the lake. These islands are anchored to the lakebed but must constantly be rebuilt, as they change shape, size, and even number over time due to the delicate nature of the reed foundations.
Upon arriving at the floating islands, you will be greeted by the friendly locals, who will guide you through their rustic homes. Your knowledgeable guide will share the fascinating history of the islands, originally built as a defense mechanism to enable easy relocation in case of attack. You’ll also learn about the logistical challenges of maintaining the islands, as the reeds gradually decay.
Next, we will head to Taquile Island, a place where time seems to stand still. Unspoiled by modern development, the island’s residents still wear traditional, handwoven clothing, and skilled artisans create remarkable treasures using ancient techniques. Discover the fascinating reversal of gender roles on the island, where men are responsible for the weaving, and women focus on knitting. After this immersive cultural experience, enjoy a light, delicious lunch prepared with regional ingredients.
At the end of this unforgettable day, you’ll return to the mainland and be transferred back to your hotel in Puno, reflecting on the beauty and traditions of this remarkable region.
