In Puerto Maldonado
The family adventure begins in Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to the Amazon. From here, set off on an exciting one-hour boat ride along the Tambopata River, where young explorers may spot playful monkeys, caimans, and colorful exotic birds. While cruising, enjoy an Amazonian lunch on board, an introduction to the rainforest’s unique flavors that will delight both children and adults.
Upon arrival at Posada Amazonas, an ecolodge managed by the Ese Eja Native Community, kids are welcomed with a special explorer ritual: a seed bracelet symbolizing their connection to the jungle and a temporary Amazonian tattoo to mark the start of their adventure.
There is also a very special companion on this journey, Paddington, the world’s most beloved bear, who joins the guide team and will be part of every family moment.
In the evening, the rainforest comes alive with the first big expedition: a night walk with flashlights to discover bioluminescent insects, fascinating frogs, tarantulas, and other nocturnal creatures. Children will learn that in the Amazon, every creature has a role to play and that the jungle never sleeps, creating unforgettable memories for the whole family.

The day begins early with a climb up the 40-meter observation tower to witness the jungle awakening. From the top, children will be amazed as the first rays of sunlight illuminate the treetops, while parrots, toucans, and macaws soar across the Amazonian sky, filling it with color and sound.
After breakfast, the adventure continues at the parrot clay lick, a magical spot where dozens of colorful birds gather to feed on mineral-rich clay. The cheerful songs of the parrots and their vibrant display of colors will captivate the entire family.
In the afternoon, a walk through the rainforest leads to the majestic Great Ceiba, a centuries-old tree that holds countless stories. Beneath its towering branches, guides will share Amazonian tales and legends, sparking the imagination of kids and adults alike.
This is the perfect moment to reflect on the importance of protecting nature and teaching children to value the wonders of the rainforest.
Today, get ready for an exciting search for the true treasure of the Amazon: wildlife. Travel by boat and walk through the jungle to reach Tres Chimbadas Lake, where you will glide silently in a canoe, searching for the elusive giant river otters. This will be a fascinating encounter for the whole family. Along the way, spot caimans, turtles, and exotic Amazonian birds in their natural habitat. For kids, it is an unforgettable opportunity to see these incredible animals up close.
In the afternoon, enjoy a sunset cruise, a magical moment when the sun paints the river in shades of gold and orange. As the jungle bids farewell with its own light show, the family will share a toast with an Amazonian drink and reflect on the real treasure of the Amazon: the beauty of untouched nature.
After dinner, young explorers will become scientists for a night by joining the Wired Amazon Discovering New Species program. With the help of biologists, they will examine samples in search of insects and other species that could be entirely new to science.
After breakfast, it is time to say goodbye to the Amazon, carrying with you the knowledge that this journey has left a lasting impression on the hearts of every family member. Children will return home with incredible stories, new insights into nature, and a deeper connection to the planet. Family travel in Peru is not just an adventure; it is an opportunity to teach the youngest explorers the importance of caring for our world.
