In San Cristobal
AM: Arrival at San Cristobal Airport
Morning flight from Quito or Guayaquil to San Cristobal, in the Galapagos Islands. Upon arrival, passengers are greeted at the airport by our knowledgeable guides and taken on a brief ten-minute bus ride to the pier, where they will board the Galapagos Legend.
PM: Interpretation Center & Frigatebird Hill: San Cristobal Island
The Interpretation Center is full of fascinating information and provides an excellent overview of the formation of the Galapagos Islands. Afterward, a hike to Frigatebird Hill (Cerro Tijeretas) offers the chance to observe both species of frigatebirds, along with a stunning view of the bay below.
AM: Gardner Bay: Española Island
This is one of the most stunning beaches in all of the Galapagos. Its long, white sand is lapped by turquoise waters and is home to a colony of Galapagos sea lions. Hood mockingbirds, found only on this island, are often seen here as well. Visitors can also snorkel directly from the beach, exploring the shallow, sheltered waters of the bay.
PM: Punta Suarez: Española Island
Punta Suarez is a naturalist’s paradise. As the oldest existing island in the archipelago, it offers our only opportunity to observe the endemic waved albatross during its breeding season, which runs from April to December. With luck, we may witness their intricate courtship displays.
AM: Post Office: Floreana Island
The famous Post Office Barrel is said to have been first established in 1793 by Captain James Colnett. The system allowed whalers and fur sealers to leave addressed letters in the barrel, to be picked up and hand-delivered by homeward-bound sailors. Even today, visitors often take letters and personally deliver them to recipients in their home countries.
PM: Punta Cormoran & Devil´s Crown: Floreana Island
Our walk takes us to a large, shallow lagoon, often inhabited by a varying number of shockingly pink greater flamingos. We then arrive at a powdery white beach, which serves as a nesting area for green turtles. Nearby, Devil’s Crown is one of the most popular snorkeling sites in the Galapagos.
AM: Dragon Hill: Santa Cruz Island
Arriving at a small lava dock, our first encounter is with marine iguanas perfectly camouflaged against the dark rock. As we walk past large prickly pear cacti, we reach one end of a long, sickle-shaped beach with Dragon Hill rising in the distance. Our walk follows a circular path, passing a shallow lake where flamingos often come to feed.
PM: Mosquera Islet
This tiny, low-lying islet, formed from coral sand, lies between North and South Seymour Islands. It is home to a group of sea lions that often lounge on the soft white sand, and it’s an excellent spot to observe shorebirds, herons, lava gulls, and boobies. While snorkeling or diving here, you may also encounter sharks, rays, and barracudas.
AM: Highlands Tortoise Reserve: Santa Cruz Island
This is our best opportunity to observe truly wild Galapagos giant tortoises up close. A short walk among these massive 600-pound reptiles also offers the chance to encounter other highland species, including several of the famed Darwin’s finches.
After the visit, passengers will be transferred to Baltra Airport for their return flight to Guayaquil or Quito.
