In San Cristobal
AM: San Cristobal Airport Arrival
Upon arrival at San Cristobal Island, and after passing through immigration and baggage claim, you will be met by a Grand Majestic staff member and transferred to the yacht. After settling into your cabin, you’ll have time to relax before enjoying lunch and a welcome briefing.
PM: El Junco Lagoon
Located in the highlands, about 19 kilometers from Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, El Junco Lagoon lies in the caldera of an extinct volcano and is fed entirely by rainwater. The surrounding area is home to farms and ranches, and it’s not uncommon to see cows grazing near the lagoon.
AM: Post Office Bay
You will land on the beach and visit the historic site where 18th century whalers placed a wooden barrel to serve as an unofficial mailbox. This unique tradition continues today among Galapagos visitors, so do not forget your postcards, and do not be surprised if they reach their destination before you return home.
Afterwards: Baroness Viewing Point
The Baroness Viewing Point is a wonderful place to take in the distinctive landscape of Floreana Island. Once home to a self-proclaimed baroness and her three companions, the area is rich in colorful history and mystery. Legends surrounding her story include a still unsolved disappearance. Visitors can enjoy easy trails that wind through the island’s native flora and fauna while taking in panoramic views.
PM: Cormorant Point
Cormorant Point features a large flamingo lagoon that is also home to other bird species such as common stilts and white-cheeked pintails. The island’s beaches are especially distinctive: Green Beach gets its name from the high concentration of olivine crystals that give the sand a greenish hue, while Flour Sand Beach is made up of fine white coral sand.
Afterwards: Devil’s Crown
You’ll have the opportunity to snorkel around Devil’s Crown, the rocky remnants of an extinct offshore volcano that rises dramatically from the sea. This site is renowned for its rich marine life, offering a chance to spot a wide variety of underwater creatures.
AM: Suarez Point
On the trail to Suarez Point, you will have the chance to spot blue footed boobies, Nazca boobies, and waved albatrosses. This island is the primary breeding site for nearly all of the world’s twelve thousand pairs of waved albatrosses. You will also visit a scenic oceanfront cliff that the albatrosses use as a natural launching pad. A highlight of the visit is the famous blowhole, where seawater shoots high into the air, creating a dramatic scene ideal for photography.
PM: Gardner Bay, Gardner Islet, and Osborn Islet
In the afternoon, you will explore the beautiful white sand beach of Gardner Bay. Walk among a lively sea lion colony or snorkel in the clear waters with playful sea lion pups. Curious mockingbirds often approach visitors along the shore, adding to the charm of this classic Galapagos experience.
AM: Twin Craters
You will visit the Twin Craters, which lie on either side of the road from Puerto Ayora to Baltra. Although not true volcanic craters, these impressive formations were created by the collapse of surface material into underground lava chambers and fissures. The surrounding scenery is lush and the view is breathtaking.
PM: Fausto Llerena Breeding Center
You will visit the Fausto Llerena Tortoise Breeding Center in Puerto Ayora, where giant tortoises are bred and raised in captivity. The center is home to tortoises ranging from tiny hatchlings just a few inches long to fully grown adults measuring up to four feet. Several subspecies can be observed interacting, and many older tortoises are accustomed to visitors, often stretching out their necks for a photo. Young tortoises are cared for until they are about four years old and strong enough to survive in the wild.
AM: El Barranco
El Barranco, also known as Prince Phillip’s Steps, is a steep, rocky path that leads up a high cliff rock face. A marvelous view can be appreciated from here. This site is also home to Palo Santo vegetation as well as red-footed boobies, short-eared owls, Galapagos storm petrels, and Galapagos doves.
PM: Darwin Bay
Visit the white-sand coral beach of Darwin Bay which includes a half mile trail (0,75km) that winds through mangroves filled with land birds. Nazca boobies, red-footed boobies, and swallow-tailed gulls, which can easily be spotted here. Further down the path we’ll find tidal pools where sea lions swim playfully. At the end is a spectacular view of a cliff.
AM: Rabida
Rabida Island (also known as Jervis) is one of the most colorful and volcanically diverse islands in the Galapagos, and it offers excellent snorkeling opportunities. Your visit begins on Rabida’s striking maroon-red sand beach. After a short and easy hike, you’ll reach a scenic viewpoint with panoramic views of the island’s unique landscape. Rabida is a haven for birdwatchers, with frequent sightings of finches, Galapagos vermilion flycatchers, Galapagos hawks, and brown pelicans.
PM: Chinese Hat Islet
In the afternoon, explore Chinese Hat Islet, a small island located off the southeastern coast of Santiago Island. Named for the distinctive shape of its summit, Chinese Hat is known for its impressive volcanic features, including lava tunnels and flows. Some of these flows originated underwater and were later uplifted, as evidenced by coral fragments embedded in the lava. It’s a fascinating site for both geology enthusiasts and nature lovers.
AM: Witch Hill
Located on the northern coast, this eroded hill and its surroundings boast one of the most picturesque beaches in the Galapagos, featuring soft white sand and abundant wildlife. You may encounter sea turtles, rays, and various species of booby birds. The crystal clear waters make it an ideal spot for swimming and snorkeling.
PM: Lobos Island
You will take an excursion to Lobos Island which means Sea Lion Island. True to its name, the island is home to lively playful sea lions who will greet you with open flippers. Lobos Island also offers excellent snorkeling opportunities and a chance to see blue footed and Nazca boobies in their natural habitat.
AM: Gianni Arismendy Interpretation Center
This center is part of an environmental project dedicated to exploring the natural history of the islands, including human interaction and ongoing conservation efforts. The Museum of Natural History explains the volcanic origin of the archipelago, ocean currents, climate, and the arrival of endemic species. The Human History exhibit presents a chronological overview of significant events such as the discovery and colonization of the islands.
Afterwards: San Cristobal Airport Departure
Following this visit, you will be transferred to San Cristobal Airport in time for your flight back to the mainland.
