Our journey aboard M/Y Isabela II begins with giants of the tortoise kind. After landing at Baltra Airport, we will soon find ourselves among these lumbering creatures in their natural highland habitat. Read More
The following day takes us to the beautiful coast of Santiago Island, home to sleepy fur seals, where there is an opportunity to snorkel alongside marine iguanas. In the afternoon, we visit the sandy beach of Sombrero Chino (Chinese Hat Islet). Overnight, we sail north to Genovesa, also known as Bird Island, where we spend the entire day observing remote colonies of nesting birds, including the rare red-footed booby, and exploring the island’s dramatic shorelines, cliffs, and beaches. Returning to the central islands, Santa Fe offers the chance to spot the Galapagos hawk, the archipelago’s top avian predator. In the afternoon, we hope to observe sea lions and reef sharks in the waters off South Plaza. From tortoises to boobies, hawks to sea lions, this northern itinerary aboard M/Y Isabela II promises five unforgettable days in the Galapagos.

AM: Baltra Airport Arrival
Upon arrival at Baltra Airport, you will transfer to the dock to board the Isabela II. After an introductory briefing and a safety drill, enjoy a delicious lunch onboard as you begin your Galapagos adventure.
PM: The Highlands: Santa Cruz Island
Begin your exploration of Santa Cruz Island in the highlands, where you will visit a reserve to observe giant tortoises roaming freely in their natural habitat. Continue your journey through impressive lava tunnels, surrounded by lush vegetation and unique geological formations. Afterward, transfer to the town of Puerto Ayora to board Yacht Isabela II and begin your Galapagos adventure.
AM: Puerto Egas: Santiago Island
Begin the day with a wet landing on the black sand beach of Puerto Egas on Santiago Island. This area is rich in wildlife, offering chances to spot land iguanas and a variety of bird species. As you explore the coastline, observe marine iguanas feeding on algae and fur seals resting among the rugged lava rocks, creating a dramatic and unforgettable scene.
PM: Chinese Hat Islet
Visit Chinese Hat Islet and walk a scenic 400 meter trail starting from a white sand beach. The trail offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape and opportunities to see native wildlife. After the walk, enjoy swimming and snorkeling in a calm cove where you may encounter white tipped reef sharks and Galapagos penguins in the clear, shallow waters.
AM: Prince Phillip’s Steps: Genovesa Island
Begin the day with a scenic panga ride along the impressive cliffs of Genovesa Island, often called Bird Island for its remarkable birdlife. Upon landing at Prince Phillip’s Steps, take a hike through colonies of boobies, frigatebirds, and storm petrels. Keep an eye out for the elusive short eared owl, one of the island’s most unique predators. Depending on conditions, you may also have the opportunity to snorkel or kayak in the surrounding waters.
PM: Darwin Bay: Genovesa Island
Explore Darwin Bay, where you will arrive at a white sand beach nestled within a collapsed caldera. This area is ideal for birdwatching, with frequent sightings of frigatebirds, boobies, gulls, herons, finches, and mockingbirds. The calm setting provides excellent opportunities for close encounters with wildlife, making it a highlight of your visit to Genovesa Island.
AM: Santa Fe Island
Begin your visit to Santa Fe Island with a dinghy ride to its inviting white sand beach. As you explore the area, you may encounter playful sea lions, the impressive Galapagos hawk, and the unique Santa Fe land iguana. To finish the morning, enjoy snorkeling, swimming, or take a glass bottom boat ride to observe marine life in the clear waters surrounding the island.
PM: South Plaza Island
Discover South Plaza Island with a dry landing in a narrow channel framed by turquoise waters, white sand, and black lava formations. Walk through a colorful landscape of scarlet sesuvium and green prickly pear cacti, where you can spot yellow grey land iguanas resting in the shade. Look to the sky and shoreline for sea lions, as well as frigatebirds, gulls, and shearwaters gliding above the cliffs.
AM: Departure from Baltra Island
Arrive at Baltra Island to conclude your journey through the Galapagos. After disembarkation, you will transfer to the airport for your return flight to the mainland. Thank you for joining us on this remarkable expedition.
