I want to let you know that Mr. and Mrs. K are back from their vacation in Costa Rica and they had a wonderful time. They mentioned that they especially enjoyed their time with Laura, their naturalist guide in Tortuguero as she did an exceptional job!
We toured the Doka coffee plantation and La Paz Waterfall gardens with Homer, and we were treated to way more than we could have imagined. Great knowledge of local flora, fauna, history, and a wonderful person overall. A wonderful day in the cloud forest!

In Baltra
AM: Arrival at Baltra Airport
Upon arrival on Baltra Island, you will be transferred directly to the dock to board the M/Y La Pinta. Once aboard, cabins will be assigned, followed by an introductory briefing and lunch.
PM: South Plaza Island
The turquoise waters of the channel here contrast beautifully with the white sand and black lava shoreline. A carpet of scarlet Sesuvium succulents covers the ground, creating a vivid setting for a grove of bright green prickly pear cacti, home to yellow-gray land iguanas. Along the coastline, sea lion colonies gather while seabirds glide effortlessly on the rising thermals that form along the cliffs of this small but stunning island.
AM: Santa Fe Island
We take a dinghy to a beautiful white sand beach inhabited by colonies of sea lions. Galapagos hawks are often seen perched on saltbushes, and the Santa Fe land iguana, which is found only on this island, may be spotted during the guided walk. After the walk, there is time to snorkel and swim along a natural wave barrier or explore the underwater world from the glass bottom boat.
PM: Cerro Colorado Tortoise Center: San Cristobal Island
After lunch, we disembark at Puerto Baquerizo Moreno and drive approximately 40 minutes to the southern shore of the island. At Cerro Colorado, we visit the breeding center for the highly endangered giant tortoises, located within a beautiful deciduous forest. This area is also home to many bird species and the endemic San Cristobal lava lizard.
AM: Punta Pitt: San Cristobal Island
This morning, we land at the eastern tip of San Cristobal Island. The trail that ascends from the beach offers spectacular views of the shoreline, where we can observe frigate birds as well as a colony of bachelor sea lions. After the walk, if conditions are favourable, there will be an opportunity to swim from the beach and snorkel.
PM: Cerro Brujo
In the afternoon, after lunch on board, a dinghy ride along the shores of tuff stone layers brings us to Cerro Brujo’s expansive white coral beach. This beach is ideal for walking and rewards bird watchers with sightings of seabirds and shorebirds. Keep an eye out for Galapagos sea lions. These are the very shores that Charles Darwin walked upon in September 1835.
AM: Punta Suarez: Espanola Island
Our morning outing at Punta Suarez includes an exciting walk over lava and boulder terrain to visit its unique sea bird colonies. The birds you may see include waved albatrosses (April to January), boobies, and swallow-tail gulls, along with the famous blow hole lava formation. Keep an eye out for red, green, and black marine iguanas. Many consider this site the best in the Galapagos. After the walk, we return on board for lunch.
PM: Gardner Bay
In the afternoon, we arrive at this beautiful white coral beach for a short walk to observe sea lions, mockingbirds, finches, or simply enjoy the beach. There is excellent snorkeling here, or you can choose to kayak or explore the underwater world from the glass bottom boat.
AM: Charles Darwin Research Station
Disembarking in the morning, we visit the Charles Darwin Research Station and the captive breeding program for giant tortoises. Here, we witness the results of extensive Galapagos fieldwork and scientific study.
We then transfer by bus across Santa Cruz Island, followed by a short ferry ride to Baltra. Our journey ends at Baltra Island, where we transfer to the airport. Baltra’s flat terrain, a result of its uplifted geological origin, was the main reason it was chosen as the site for an airport in the 1940s.
