In Baltra
AM: Arrival at Baltra Airport
Upon your arrival at Baltra Airport, you will be welcomed to the Galapagos Islands and and transferred to the M/Y Monserrat. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the highlands of Santa Cruz, where you will visit a tortoise ranch and admire the impressive volcanic formations of the area.
PM: Santa Cruz Highlands
During this visit, you will explore the highlands of Santa Cruz and have the opportunity to observe the famous Galapagos giant tortoise in its natural environment. You will also explore the area’s incredible underground lava tunnels, some of which are more than 1 km (6 miles) long.
AM: Chinese Hat
Like much of the Galapagos, Sombrero Chino is of volcanic origin. Long ago, eruptions from nearby Santiago Island formed what is known as a spatter cone. Today, the islet features striking landscapes, a beautiful white coral sand beach, and is home to sea lions and marine iguanas. Snorkeling is one of the most popular activities here, where you can come face to face with playful sea lions and large schools of tropical fish.
PM: Sullivan Bay
Walking through Sullivan Bay offers an extraordinary journey into the volcanic origins of the archipelago. The hike takes you across a perfectly preserved pahoehoe lava flow, giving you the opportunity to observe the delicate textures of this rare type of lava.
While the landscape may appear barren and lifeless, a closer look reveals resilient pioneer plants, scurrying lava lizards, and small birds. Along the shore, penguins, pelicans, and oystercatchers add a touch of life to the stark environment.
AM: North Seymour
The morning starts with a visit to North Seymour Island, a spectacular showcase of the Galapagos Islands’ diverse wildlife. This relatively flat island is home to thriving populations of blue-footed boobies and frigatebirds.
The trail winds through bushy vegetation, where you will have the chance to witness the fascinating courtship dance of the blue-footed boobies. Along the coastline, you can observe sea lions and marine iguanas basking in the sun. The large frigatebird colonies are especially impressive when the males inflate their bright red throat pouches to attract mates.
This is an ideal spot for birdwatching and photography.
PM: Sante Fe Island
Santa Fe Island is known for its picturesque bay and turquoise waters, perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The island is also home to a large population of land iguanas, which are unique to the Galapagos. Make sure to look for these magnificent creatures as you walk through the giant prickly pear cactus forest. The calm, clear waters are ideal for spotting marine life, including sea turtles, rays, and colorful schools of fish. Santa Fe also offers a chance to see the Galapagos hawk and various endemic finches.
This day combines both terrestrial and marine activities, including kayaking and panga rides, showcasing the diverse landscapes and wildlife the Galapagos Islands are famous for.
AM: Pitt Point: San Cristobal Island
This amazing spot offers endless wildlife and fascinating geological formations on a captivating expedition. You will arrive at a quiet cove on the eastern tip of San Cristobal to explore Punta Pitt, formed from volcanic tuff.
It is the only site in the Galapagos where you can see three species of boobies and two species of frigatebirds.
PM: Witch Hill: San Cristobal Island
Witch Hill is a breathtaking white sand beach on the northern coast of San Cristobal Island. This beach was one of the first sites visited by Charles Darwin and remains an attractive spot for walking and enjoying the landscape, with its powdery white sand and turquoise waters. The area is home to a large sea lion colony, and the nearby lagoon often hosts several bird species, including pelicans and blue-footed boobies.
The clear waters also make it an ideal spot for snorkeling, where you can encounter abundant marine life.
AM: Tijeretas Hill
Tijeretas Hill is a popular attraction on San Cristobal Island, offering visitors spectacular panoramic views and the chance to enjoy the rich marine life that surrounds the area.
The name “Tijeretas” refers to the frigatebirds that inhabit the region. It is one of the few places where you can see both species of frigatebirds nesting in the same colony.
PM: Isla Lobos Excursion
Explore this tiny island by foot and boat for great wildlife encounters. Take a zodiac ride to observe the seabirds and shorebirds nesting and feeding along the coast.
You may also spot a small colony of blue-footed boobies, as well as two species of sea lions.
AM: Gardner Bay: Espanola Island
The morning starts with a visit to Gardner Bay’s magnificent white sandy beach, home to sea lions and seabirds. Be sure to explore the beautiful turquoise waters and their incredible marine life. You may spot young sea lions and large schools of tropical fish, including yellow-tailed surgeonfish, king angelfish, and bump-head parrotfish.
You will also visit Tortuga Rock for a spectacular snorkeling experience. Here, you can encounter playful young sea lions, colorful fish, and even white-tipped reef sharks resting on the ocean floor.
PM: Suarez Point: Espanola Island
Visit Punta Suarez, one of the richest wildlife landing sites in the Galapagos. You will be greeted by playful young sea lions upon arrival. Follow the trail to find many species of nesting seabirds, and if you are lucky, you may see the waved albatross. Continue along the path to a cliff for stunning ocean views and watch seabirds gliding in the wind.
On this day, you will land at Punta Cormorant on Floreana Island. Our naturalist guide will walk with you to observe the birds and wildlife as you begin this adventure by learning about the natural history of this unique place.
AM: Cormorant Point: Floreana Island
Punta Cormorant is the only landing site on Floreana Island. Here, you will discover two amazingly different beaches: one with green sand, colored by olivine crystals, and another with white sand known as Flour Beach.
You will spend the morning observing flamingos and other shorebirds feeding in the lagoon.
PM: Post Office Bay: Floreana Island
During the visit to Post Office Bay, you will learn about its unique history. In the late 18th century, English whaling vessels placed a barrel here to be used as a post office.
Today, the barrel is used mainly by tourists, who may drop off and pick up unstamped letters to be carried to distant destinations. We encourage you to continue the tradition: leave a letter and take one to deliver, making sure it reaches the correct location.
AM: Charles Darwin Station: Santa Cruz Island
The Fausto Llerena Breeding Center is an excellent place to observe many species of tortoises and land iguanas in captivity. Brought back from the brink of extinction, the famous Galapagos tortoise can be seen up close. A corral houses adult tortoises, while a nursery cares for the young until around age three, when their shells have hardened.
This area also houses the Charles Darwin Research Station, a scientific organization founded in 1964 that works to preserve the Galapagos ecosystem through the conservation efforts of scientists, researchers, and volunteers. The research station provides a study location for international scientists and environmental education for the local community.
After this visit, you will be transferred to Baltra Airport for your flight back to mainland Ecuador.
