In San Cristobal
AM: Arrival at San Cristobal Airport
You will arrive at San Cristobal Island in the morning. After passing through immigration and baggage claim, a Natural Paradise staff member will meet you and transfer you to the yacht. You will be shown to your cabin, where you will have time to settle in before lunch and a welcome briefing.
PM: Kicker Rock
This striking rock formation lies a few hours off the western shore of San Cristobal. Rising vertically hundreds of feet above the ocean, the rocks are divided by a narrow channel. Although there are no landing areas, circumnavigating the formation allows visitors to spot a variety of marine life.
Afterwards: Witch Hill
Located on the northern coast, this eroded hill and its surroundings feature one of the most picturesque beaches in the Galapagos, with white powdery sand and abundant wildlife. You can expect to see sea turtles, rays, and several species of boobies. The clear waters offer excellent opportunities for swimming and snorkeling.
AM: South Plaza Island
This small island, with steep cliffs formed by rising lava, is now covered by Opuntia cacti. It is home to one of the largest sea lion colonies, as well as colorful yellow and red land iguanas. The most distinctive plant is Sesuvium, which changes color with the seasons, turning greenish to yellowish during the rainy season and bright red in the dry season from the end of June through January.
PM: Black Turtle Cove
Visit Black Turtle Cove on the northern coast of Santa Cruz. This inlet, surrounded by mangroves, is accessible only by dinghy. The shallow cove is a haven for young marine life, where blacktip and whitetip reef sharks, sea turtles, and various rays are often spotted.
AM: Rabida
You will visit Rabida Island, also known as Jervis, one of the most colorful and volcanically diverse islands in the archipelago, as well as a great snorkeling site. The visit begins at Rabida’s famous maroon red sand beach. After an easy hike, you will reach a stunning lookout with amazing landscapes. The island is a birdwatcher’s paradise, home to abundant species such as several types of finches, Galapagos vermilion flycatchers, Galapagos hawks, and brown pelicans.
PM: Pinnacle Rock
You will head to Bartholomew Island, home to the famous Pinnacle Rock. Bartholomew is an extinct volcano featuring volcanic formations in shades of red, orange, black, and even green. We will climb a trail of stairs to the summit of the volcano, which takes about 30 to 40 minutes, where you can enjoy one of the best views of the islands. A beautiful beach surrounded by the only vegetation on the island is perfect for snorkeling, where you may even see and swim with Galapagos penguins.
AM: Sullivan Bay
You will visit Sullivan Bay, located on the southeast part of Santiago Island. This area is geologically fascinating, covered by extensive lava flows. Small volcanic formations created by these lava flows add interesting elevations to the landscape.
PM: Dragon Hill
Situated on Santa Cruz Island, Dragon Hill is one of the newest visitor sites open to tourists in the Galapagos Islands. One of the longer walking trails leads visitors along a beach and up to a lagoon lookout, where bright flamingos, pintail ducks, and land iguanas can be seen.
AM: Highlands
Accessible by bus from Puerto Ayora, the highlands of Santa Cruz are a deep green, beautifully contrasting with the dry lower areas of the island. The predominant vegetation is Scalesia trees, which create a lush forest. The lava tunnels, stretching over half a mile underground, offer a unique and surreal walking experience. You will have lunch at this location.
Afterwards: Twin Craters
You will visit the Twin Craters, located on opposite sides of the road between Puerto Ayora and Baltra. The name is figurative as these are not true craters but formations created by the collapse of surface material over underground fissures and chambers. The view is breathtaking.
PM: Fausto Llerena Breeding Center
You will visit the Fausto Llerena Tortoise Breeding Center in Puerto Ayora, where giant tortoises are bred in captivity. This facility is home to tortoises ranging from three-inch hatchlings to four-foot-long adults. Different subspecies of giant tortoises interact with one another, and many older tortoises are accustomed to humans, often stretching out their heads for a photo opportunity. The young tortoises are kept until they are about four years old and strong enough to survive on their own.
AM: El Barranco
El Barranco, also known as Prince Philip’s Steps, is a steep, rocky path that climbs up a high cliff face, offering a spectacular view from the top. The area is home to Palo Santo trees and provides excellent opportunities to spot red-footed boobies, short-eared owls, Galapagos storm petrels, and Galapagos doves.
PM: Darwin Bay
Visit the white sand coral beach of Darwin Bay, which features a half-mile (0.75 km) trail winding through mangroves filled with land birds. Nazca boobies, red-footed boobies, and swallow-tailed gulls are commonly spotted here. Farther down the path, tidal pools offer a chance to see playful sea lions. The trail ends with a spectacular view of a cliff.
AM: Espumilla Beach
At Espumilla Beach, marine iguanas lounge while Sally Lightfoot crabs attract hunting herons, creating a striking display of predator and prey right before your eyes. Snorkeling here is highly recommended, as you may come face to face with an octopus, moray eel, shark, and a variety of tropical fish.
Or: Buccaneer Cove
Buccaneer Cove is a testament to Santiago Island’s past as a refuge for British buccaneers. These pirates once anchored in the protected bay to make repairs and stock up on supplies, including tortoise meat. The steep cliffs, where hundreds of seabirds perch above the dark red sand beach, create a magnificent scene.
PM: Egas Port
Egas Port, also known as James Bay, on Santiago Island is home to curious Galapagos hawks and quick-footed lava lizards. The trail leads to a scenic coastline with tide pools and grottos full of marine life. Here, Galapagos fur seals can often be seen basking in the sun. This is also an excellent spot for snorkeling.
AM: Bachas Beach
Bachas Beach, located on the north shore of Santa Cruz, is a great spot for swimming. One of the few remnants of the U.S. presence in the Galapagos during World War II is a floating pier that can still be seen here. Wildlife commonly spotted includes flamingos, Sally Lightfoot crabs, hermit crabs, black-necked stilts, and whimbrels. Sea turtles also nest on the beach.
After this final visit, you will be transferred to Baltra airport in time for your flight back to the mainland.
