In Baltra
AM: Arrival at Baltra Airport
Morning flight from Quito or Guayaquil to Baltra in the Galapagos Islands. Upon arrival at Baltra Island, you will go through immigration and baggage claim before being greeted by a Natural Paradise staff member. You will then be transferred to the yacht and shown to your cabin, with some time to settle in before enjoying lunch and a welcome briefing.
PM: North Seymour
On North Seymour Island, you may encounter Galapagos sea lions, blue-footed boobies, and abundant magnificent frigatebirds. The island was formed by a series of submarine lava flows mixed with sediment layers that were uplifted by tectonic activity. It is characterized by its arid vegetation zone.
AM: Vicente Roca Point
Comprised of two separate coves, Vicente Roca Point is a large bay teeming with spectacular marine life. While snorkeling, keep an eye out for seahorses, sea turtles, and the strange yet fascinating Mola mola, also known as the sunfish.
PM: Espinoza Point
After crossing the Bolivar Channel, which separates Isabela and Fernandina Islands, you will land at Espinoza Point. As you walk past a colony of marine iguanas and a group of sea lions, you will arrive at the island’s highlight: the nesting site of the flightless cormorant. This area also offers a great opportunity to spot the Galapagos hawk.
AM: Urbina Bay
Urbina Bay is located at the base of Alcedo Volcano on the west coast, between Tagus Cove and Elizabeth Bay. In 1954, a major uplift caused the land to rise over 16 feet, expanding the coastline by half a mile and leaving marine life stranded on the new shore. This area is also an excellent spot for snorkeling.
PM: Moreno Point
Moreno Point is located southwest of Elizabeth Bay. Here, a dry landing is possible on what was once flowing lava. The lava left craters that have since formed crystal-clear tide pools. Peering into these pools, you can glimpse a unique underwater world as marine life drifts by. In the brackish pools, you may spot pink flamingos, white-cheeked pintails, and common gallinules. With careful observation, you might also see white-tip reef sharks and sea turtles.
AM: Sierra Negra Volcano
Visit Sierra Negra Volcano, the largest basaltic caldera in the Galapagos, measuring 6.2 miles (10 km) in diameter. The site offers impressive views and the chance to observe up to seven species of finches alongside a rich variety of vegetation. The north side of the caldera shows evidence of its most recent volcanic activity in 2005.
PM: Wetlands
The wetlands of Isabela Island, located just outside Puerto Villamil, consist of lagoons, swamps, and mangroves. They are home to a variety of unique bird species such as common stilts, whimbrels, white-cheeked pintails, and gallinules. Visitors can explore the wetlands on foot via a path through the swamps.
Afterwards: Arnaldo Tupiza Breeding Center
The Arnaldo Tupiza Breeding Center is located about one mile (1.5 km) from Puerto Villamil. It houses captive-bred tortoise populations from South Isabela, Sierra Negra Volcano, Cerro Azul, Cazuela, Cinco Cerros, Roca Union, San Pedro, Tables, and Cerro Paloma. In total, the center cares for 330 juvenile and adult tortoises.
AM: Chinese Hat Islet
This small islet is located near the southeast coast of Santiago Island. Its name comes from the distinct shape of its summit. Chinese Islet is an excellent spot to observe various geological formations, including lava tunnels and lava flows. Some of these lava flows were formed underwater and later uplifted above sea level, as indicated by the presence of coral heads on the lava.
PM: Borrero Bay
In the northern area of Santa Cruz Island, Bahia Borrero is a beautiful white coral beach that serves as a nesting site for Green Sea turtles. This extinct volcano, due to its altitude, displays a range of vegetation zones, transitioning from the littoral to the arid zone, then into the humid zone, and finally ending in the dry pampa zone.
AM: Baroness Viewing Point
Baroness Viewing Point is a fantastic spot to soak in the unique environment of the Galapagos. Once home to an indulgent baroness and her three lovers, the island’s history is intriguing. Legends surrounding the baroness are linked to a fascinating murder mystery. Easy trails in the area allow visitors to explore the diverse flora and fauna of Floreana.
Afterwards: Post Offce Bay
You will land on a beach and visit the spot where 18th century whalers placed a wooden barrel that served as an unofficial mailbox. This custom continues to this day with Galapagos visitors. So, don’t forget your postcards and don’t be surprised if your postcard arrives at its destination before you even get home!
PM: Cormorant Point
Cormorant Point features a large flamingo lagoon where you can also see birds such as common stilts and white-cheeked pintails. The island’s beaches are unique: Green Beach gets its name from the high concentration of olivine crystals that give its sand a distinctive green color, while Flour Sand Beach is made up of white coral.
Afterwards: Champion Islet
Champion Islet, named after the whaler Andrew Champion, is a small island located just offshore from Floreana Island in the southern part of the archipelago. It is considered one of the most beautiful spots in the Galapagos for snorkeling enthusiasts and offers excellent opportunities for dolphin watching.
AM: Suarez Point
On the trail to Suarez Point, you will have the chance to spot blue-footed boobies, Nazca boobies, and waved albatrosses. This island is the breeding site for nearly all of the world’s 12,000 pairs of waved albatrosses. You will also visit a stunning oceanfront site featuring a cliff that the large albatrosses use as a launching pad. Nearby, you can witness the famous blowhole that shoots seawater into the air. The landscape offers fantastic opportunities for photography.
PM: Gardner Bay, Gardner Islet & Osborn Islet
This excursion takes you to the spectacular Gardner Bay. After landing, you can stroll along a lovely white-sand beach bustling with a sea lion colony or dive into the water to swim with playful sea lion pups. You may also spot curious mockingbirds on the beach.
AM: Lobos Island
You’ll take an excursion to Lobos Island, which means “Sea Lion Island.” True to its name, the island is home to a lively colony of noisy, playful sea lions who might just welcome you with open fins, or at least the closest thing to it. In addition to the sea lions, the island offers excellent snorkeling opportunities and the chance to spot blue-footed and Nazca boobies.
After this final visit, you will be transferred to San Cristobal airport in time for your flight back to the mainland.
