EcoAmerica Tours put together a one of a kind trip for me that I took in June/July 2015. I traveled alone and I am a young female. I felt safe and had each day of my vacation planned out for me with a guide and a driver at minimal cost.

We toured the Doka coffee plantation and La Paz Waterfall gardens with Homer, and we were treated to way more than we could have imagined. Great knowledge of local flora, fauna, history, and a wonderful person overall. A wonderful day in the cloud forest!
I want you to know that we arrived safely back to the US. Thank you for all of your help with our changes due to the hurricane. We very much enjoyed Manuel Antonio and Arenal and are sorry that we missed Monteverde. Our guide, Homer, was terrific and we really enjoyed his knowledge and camaraderie.

Amazon Cruise & Scenic Andean Countryside
This extraordinary one-week adventure begins with a private guided visit to the beautiful city of Quito, a UNESCO World Heritage capital. You will also visit the Middle of the World monument, where you can literally stand with one foot in the Northern Hemisphere and the other in the Southern Hemisphere. Read More
Your journey continues with your choice of a full-day private guided adventure into the Andean countryside:
A) the charming village of Otavalo, home to the largest open-air market in South America;
B) a nature hike in Cotopaxi National Park, home to one of the world’s highest active volcanoes; or
C) a day of exploration in the Mindo Cloud Forest, part of the Mindo-Nambillo Ecological Reserve.
After your Andean encounter, prepare for a once-in-a-lifetime experience: a guided Amazon cruise featuring naturalist-led expeditions that reveal the mystery, spirit, vibrant life, and astonishing biodiversity of the most species-rich region on Earth.
Sunday departures feature Deluxe Hotels and the Anakonda Luxury Cruise, while Friday departures offer First Class Hotels and the Manatee Adventure Cruise.
Meet and greet service at the airport, followed by a private transfer to your chosen hotel for a three-night stay, including breakfast and taxes.
Accommodation Options:
After breakfast, you will enjoy a Quito City Tour and a visit to the Middle of the World Monument. The remainder of the afternoon is yours to unwind or explore at your leisure.
After breakfast at the hotel, and at the designated time, meet your guide in the hotel lobby to embark on the Adventure of Your Choice:
At the appropriate time, you will be transferred to Quito Airport for a 30-minute flight to the Amazonian city of Coca. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the dock and board a motorized canoe for a 90-minute journey down the river, enjoying the beauty of the Amazon as you travel to your selected ship: the deluxe-class Anakonda or the first-class Manatee Amazon Explorer.
Upon boarding, you’ll be warmly welcomed aboard. Expert local naturalist guides will provide a brief and informative introduction to the Ecuadorian Amazon. Afterwards, guests can explore the cruise ship and admire the rainforest scenery as we glide along the Napo River.
Following a delicious dinner, we will embark on a nighttime forest walk to experience the sounds of the rainforest and observe its fascinating nocturnal wildlife.
In the morning, we will explore the lower Napo River, where we may spot a variety of bird species, including eagles, oropendolas, and iconic woodpeckers. In the afternoon, we will visit Yasuni National Park, one of the most biodiverse places on Earth and home to the legendary pink river dolphin. This is a unique opportunity to participate in our pink dolphin conservation program, developed in collaboration with the Secoya community in the Cocaya area. Together, we help provide a safe haven where these dolphins can live and feed without the threat of hunting.
Nearby, the Secoya people, an ancestral minority culture, will welcome us and share their traditions, including a demonstration of how to prepare traditional cassava bread.
We will begin the day by visiting an authentic Kichwa family on the banks of the Napo River, where you will have the opportunity to learn directly from members of the local community about their way of life. Afterwards, we will return to the vessel and join our expert chef for a cooking class, learning how to prepare exquisite traditional Ecuadorian dishes.
Guests can also try their hand at traditional handicrafts, relax in the open-air hot tub while enjoying the stunning Amazon scenery, sip cocktails at the Bar and Lounge, or enjoy nighttime stargazing from the Observation Deck. For those seeking a more active experience, there will be an opportunity to explore the surrounding nature by kayak.
We begin the day by visiting an observation tower built into a giant, centuries-old kapok tree. From the top, guests can marvel at impressive 360-degree views of the forest canopy and contemplate the vastness of the Amazon. In the afternoon, we will explore the primary forest, observing the diverse plants and wildlife species endemic to this unique ecosystem. We may also encounter the unusual hoatzin, locally known as the “stinkbird.”
This is where our adventure comes to an end. First, we will enjoy the return journey to Puerto Providencia, where we will disembark from the Anakonda Amazon Cruise and take a motorized canoe back to the city of Coca. From there, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Quito to connect with your home-bound flight or to continue your journey with a Galapagos Cruise.
