In Baltra
AM: Flight to Baltra Airport (GPS)
Upon arrival at Baltra Airport, you will pass through an inspection point to ensure that no foreign plants or animals are introduced to the islands. You will also pay the park entrance fee of 200 dollars, unless it has been prepaid. A guide will meet you, assist with your luggage, and accompany you on a short bus ride to the harbor.
PM: Chato Reserve: Santa Cruz
On your first excursion, you will disembark at the Itabaca Channel and be driven to the highlands of Santa Cruz Island. There, you will visit an area inhabited by Galapagos giant tortoises. Because these magnificent reptiles do not follow the official boundaries of the National Park, many roam freely through agricultural land and humid forests. They enjoy muddy baths, feast on fallen fruits, and sometimes carry birds on their backs. After observing these modern-day dinosaurs in their natural habitat, you will return to the yacht for dinner, entertainment, and relaxation.
AM: Sullivan Bay: Santiago
Arriving in Sullivan Bay feels like landing on the moon. The desolate, sprawling lava fields appear mostly lifeless, yet the area is especially popular among photographers and offers plenty to discover. There is life here too. Green sea turtles nest on the small white sand beach, where you may also see crabs, blue herons, and oystercatchers. In the lava flows, only a few pioneer species such as lava cacti and mollugos are able to grow.
PM: Bartholomew
The island of Bartholomew rises 114 meters above Sullivan Bay. Climbing the steps of the Bartolome Peak Trail rewards you with panoramic views of volcanic cones, craters, and ancient lava fields. After the hike, you can cool off in the waters near the iconic Pinnacle Rock and explore the underwater world while snorkeling. Although the island has little vegetation, it features two beautiful beaches where sea turtles are often found. At the base of the mountain, you may also encounter a small colony of Galapagos penguins.
AM: North Seymour
North Seymour is a flat, uplifted island with scattered boulders and rich wildlife. It is home to large colonies of magnificent frigatebirds and blue-footed boobies, which perform their courtship dances in the open areas. Swallow-tailed gulls perch on the cliffs, while sea lions rest and play along the beach. Male frigatebirds inflate their bright red throat pouches to attract mates, creating a striking display among the trees. A circular trail leads visitors past nesting sites and ends at a dramatic shoreline where waves crash against the rocks.
PM: South Plaza
This afternoon, you will visit South Plaza Islet. Upon arrival, a barking Galapagos sea lion bull may greet you at the jetty, claiming his territory with a noisy welcome. The islet has a striking Jurassic feel, with its vibrant reddish vegetation and towering Opuntia cacti. These cactus trees provide both food and shelter for large populations of marine iguanas and the yellowish Barrington land iguanas. You will also have the opportunity to swim over a reef filled with boulders that attract an impressive variety of marine life, including sea turtles, reef sharks, stingrays, and playful sea lions.
AM: Pitt Islet and Pitt Point: San Cristobal
Pitt Point, where Darwin first spotted land in the Galapagos, features dramatic cliffs and a small green sand beach often visited by sea lions. A trail leads through a ravine to panoramic views from the cliff top. This site is one of the few places where all three species of boobies, blue footed, red footed, and Nazca, can be seen nesting, along with Great and Magnificent frigatebirds. Visitors can also enjoy snorkeling or kayaking along these remote and scenic shores.
PM: Witch Hill: San Cristobal
Witch Hill, known in Spanish as Cerro Brujo, is the eroded remains of a tuff cone. Its main attraction is a wide coral sand beach that opens into a calm, shallow bay. Snorkeling here reveals a rich underwater world inhabited by marine iguanas, stingrays, white-tipped reef sharks, eagle rays, sea turtles, moray eels, garden eels, and many species of reef fish. Behind the beach’s sand dunes lies a dry lava flow with saltwater ponds that serve as a resting place for iguanas and as an excellent spot to observe coastal and migratory birds. Species frequently seen here include pelicans, blue-footed boobies, and swallow-tailed gulls.
AM: Interpretation Center: San Cristobal
The Galapagos National Park Visitor Center is located near the port town of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. The center offers an overview of the islands’ natural history, including their volcanic origins, isolation from the mainland, ocean currents, unique climate, the arrival of different species, and how they became established over time.
Transfer to San Cristobal Airport
It has been a pleasure to accompany you on this unforgettable journey. We hope to welcome you back again very soon.
